Approach Your Essay Writing Task According To Your Personality

One of the most common communication theories is the theory of individual differences which is authored in the 1930s. The theory states that individuals possess a variation of characteristics which make them different from each other. The characteristics that they possess will depend on the environment they have been exposed to and the innate instincts and genes they have inherited from their parents—“nurture” and “nature”. How they have been influenced by these factors will greatly depend on the individuals’ beliefs, opinions, values and needs. It will ultimately form the individuals’ personality, motivation and learning style.

This is further evident with the classification of learning styles that have been developed by Fleming, also known as the VARK model. The model shows that students or learners can be classified into four groups: the visual learners, the aural or auditory learners, the reading and writing learners and the kinesthetic or tactile learners.

What do these concepts tell us? They just prove that there are different ways that an individual approaches a certain task, and this would depend on the learning and working style the individual is more comfortable with. Therefore, it is very important that as a student, you know what your approach to your essay writing task should be. It should be accomplished in the manner that works best for you. There are some of you that are more comfortable with a structured system than something that is easily changed from time to time. By identifying what your approach will be, your essay will also become more original. Your essay can also easily reflect your thoughts in an angle that is uniquely yours. This is an advantage since your professors will always check if your essay is not duplicated elsewhere.

Although you can learn different working techniques and methods from other people, you must also take into consideration if these strategies will be effective for you. The best thing to go about your approach is to identify your working style first. You can then ask for additional strategies and incorporate them within the framework that you are most comfortable with. This way, you are only modifying your working style and not completely shifting it from what you have been originally used to.
